Welcome to my website. In my opinion, there is nothing more engaging and beautiful than encaustic painting. I offer workshops in Encaustic Painting and Encaustic Monotype in my Studio/Gallery in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
Encaustic is the use of beeswax,
pigment and Dammar resin in combination with heat to create art. Encaustic – from the Greek, meaning “to burn
in” – is an ancient medium. Some of the most
well-known encaustic art pieces from ancient times are the Fayum Portraits,
which are funerary portraits painted onto coffins, in
Greco-Roman Egypt.
Encaustic is as durable as other art
media. Be gentle with it, don´t hang it
in direct sunlight. Paintings may be
carefully cleaned with a soft cloth. Depending
upon the texture of a painting, it may be lightly buffed with a soft cloth to
bring up a lacquer-like shine. Encaustic
works may be safely transported within a temperature range of 35 to 120 degrees
Fahrenheit without cracking or melting, though extreme heat can soften the
finish. Please do not leave it in a hot
car or sit anything on top of the painting.
Please contact me if you see one of my paintings you want...or have an idea for one you'd like painted. I welcome your comments....wax on!
